Instruction for Healthy Life

Cleanliness, purity and sanctity produce beneficial effects on health. Sweet too is dirty and toxic like urine and hence undergarments should be daily washed and dried in sunshine. The residence should not be damp; light and air must reach there. Body, clothes and house should always be pure, neat and clean. It is also essential to keep food and water and the place where they are kept clean. Cheaper items may be used but they must be neat and clean. Costly and precious items give no benefit if they are dirty and filthy.
A habit should be cultivated to keep smiling and feel happy. Howsoever big be the forthcoming agenda of work, whatever are the confronting problems, whatever is the magnitude of troubles faced, and they should not overload the mind. Sorrow, grief, worry, distress, anguish, perplexity, agitation, anxiety, uneasiness, state of uncertainty, etc are top enemies of good health. The harm that is produced by one day's grief, anxiety or worry is equivalent to the harm that is done by not taking food for four days. Such mental disturbances create more problems than solving them. Retaining mental balance under testing times is one of the best means of solving the problems.
Laughing one hour daily is more nourishing than drinking one glass of milk or taking 50 gm of milk fat. A person who remains cheerful, happy, glad, smiling, contented, delightful and full of hope always keeps healthy. One biologist says - "Happiness and health are intimately related, but I don't know whether people maintain health due to happiness or they remain happy because of good health." Indeed cheerfulness has a great effect on health. There is a French saying - 'Laugh and grow fat'. Therefore one who laughs maintains good health. On the contrary, people who are pessimist, jealous, resentful, fretful, fault-finding and narrow minded burn their life force in the fire of these mental disorders. Gradually they become weak and ultimately fall sick. Vices like deceit, lying, hypocrisy, robbery, ego, wickedness, bad conduct etc are also extremely harmful to health.
The mind should be kept calm, cheerful, pure and worry-free. One should always hope for a brighter future. Others should be treated with goodwill, a feeling of kind-ship, love and generosity. One should have firm faith in God and remain free from anxiety. Believing strongly that the life is protected by the Almighty, one can easily get rid of worldly fears and doubts.
Thus in order to maintain good health there is need to consciously make it a practice to --- [select proper eatables, eat in a proper way, do appropriate physical exercise and manage the daily routine properly]. If the mind is kept alert and the routine is practiced carefully, it will become a habit; and once a person becomes habitual of these activities, it should be considered that she/ he has conquered her/his health.

O men/women desirous of rejuvenation! These essential factors are not medicines, but they are more precious than the colored bottles costing thousands of rupees. Practice these simple rules. Your health will improve so much that it may be considered 'rejuvenation' as compared to its present state.

Importance of Yagya in Gayatri Sadhana

Gayatri and Yagya constitute a pair. Gayatri has been called righteous wisdom and Yagya as righteous action. Coordination of both solves all problems. Yagya may be performed as and when it is convenient. It can be done by chanting Mantra and offering ghee and sugar into the fire. If it is sought to be made still briefer, the purpose of symbolic ritual of Agnihotra can also be fulfilled if a ghrit lamp is lighted, incense-stick is burnt and Gayatri Mantra chanted. If even this little work cannot be performed daily, it should be on any convenient day at least once in a month. Those who are not acquainted with the procedure and expert persons capable of performing the ritual as well as necessary materials is not available, can write solves all problems. Those who are not acquainted with the procedure and expert persons capable of performing the rituals as well as necessary materials are not available can write to Shantikunj for performance of the Yagya. Yagya is performed daily in the morning at Shantikunj for two hours in a Yagyashala.
Yagyas at a large scale are required to be performed to purify the subtle environment and destroy pollution permeating the atmosphere. It infuses religious favor and enthusiasm in the participants and they also get an opportunity to take a vow to give up one vice by way of dev-dakshina and adopt one virtue or righteous tendency. In this way big Yagyas help in inculcating ethical values.

The meaning of the word Yagya is to do sacrifice, charity and worship. Its practical message is that one ought not to spend his entire earnings on himself and his family but should also distribute a part of it for the welfare of others. It also implies that divinity and gentlemanliness should be respected and people should live together in mutual cooperation and loving kindness.

Prosperity and spirituality

Who among us does not want to have a prosperous life? Prosperity (samriddhi) has been categorizes as a divine grace, a noble resource (vibhuti) in the Vedic literature. Prosperity, as the etymology and the literal meaning of the Sanskrit word ''samraddhi" in a complete sense implies, good health, wealth and cheerful progress. Of these "wealth" seems to be the most attractive and powerful term in today's world. However, because of its materialistic connotation and worldly nature, it is often a debatable issue in the context of spirituality.
Many people regard wealth as an anti-thesis to spirituality. Religious preaching and lives of saints also espouse austerity and renunciation. But in spite of their faith and respect for such teachings, most people would find it hard to even think of living without
'Substantial' worldly resources! More so in today's world, when smooth discharge of primary duties like good education of children/youngsters in the family, or adequate healthcare of elderly parents, etc, itself demands sizable sums! What to do then? Sometimes or the other this puzzle must be churning the minds of all those who think.
Up till the past few decades the scenario continued to be overshadowed by materialistic attitude that mushroomed with massive industrial growth and urbanized civilization. Majority would not have bothered to care for the role of spirituality in human life. However the rising trends of disharmony in the families, social conflicts, psychosomatic problems, general feeling of insecurity, etc, have now made people realize that some links of life have got missed somewhere in a single track pursuit of money, name, fame and lavish possessions. More and more people are now getting interested in knowing and practicing spiritual principles in their quest for stress-free modes of work and fulfillment. It is therefore in the fitness of things to look at affluence and prosperity with a perspective of spirituality.
The Vedic Nepalese Culture attributes wealth (artha) as one of the four vital accomplishments (Dharma, arth, kama and Moksa) of human life. Dharma, Artha and Kama are the foundational pillars of human life aimed at ultimate enlightenment and transcendental ascent - Moksa. Dharma refers to righteous conduct and performance of altruistic duties. Arha (wealth) is the source of attainment of worldly resources and prosperous progress. Karma means creative zeal for pleasure and fulfillment of desires.
A rishi (Vedic sage) says - vidya dadati vinayam, vinayat yati patriatam, patratat dhanah apnoti, Dhanat Dharmah, Tato Sukham - implying, (apart from its other benefits) knowledge endows one with humanity; this adds to one's qualities which enable one earn dhana (wealth); wealth is used to carry out righteous duties to (eventually) attain unalloyed joy. Indeed, total renunciation of wealth or sacrificing material resources is not possible in today's world even for the seekers of spiritual elevation. Even the bare minimum necessities of sustaining a normal life would require some resources in some form. Those having responsibilities towards the family need much more. Escaping from duties is a wrong and anti-spiritual act. Without any money or worldly supports one would neither be able to bear the worldly responsibilities nor discharge the religious duties.

Ancient scriptures enunciate multiple facets of this issue, which are reinvestigated and guided by some noted thinkers of the present time.

Rejuvenation of Life

Gayatri Mantra rejuvenates a person spiritually. As soon as a person starts Gayatri Sadhana he feels a new vibrancy surging within himself. With the increase in the element of righteousness, vices, evil thoughts, evil tendencies, malice, avarice etc. star decreasing and virtues like self-restraint, politeness, sweetness, honesty, truthfulness, generosity, love, contentment, peace, service-mindedness, warmth start increasing day by day. The result is that people are positively impressed by his sweet nature and conduct and entertain feelings of praise, gratefulness, faith and respect for him and gladly extent to him all the help that they can. Besides, these virtues in themselves are so uplifting that a person possessing them always feels self-contentment and perpetual quiet.
An extra-ordinary change takes place in the general attitude of a Gayatri Sadhak. On account of development of prudence, true knowledge and ritambhara intellect, suffering due to ignorance are eliminated. Everybody has to face difficult circumstances due to destiny and as an essential outcome of his own deeds. Whereas, an ignorant and unrefined person feels suffocating pain and suffering on account of loss, bereavement, disease, violence, opposition, shock etc. a Gayatri Sadhak endowed with spiritual discernment and faith meets these adversities with perfect equanimity. He remains in blissful peace even in adversity.
Besides worldly benefits, a Gayatri Sadhak acquires spiritual gifts. Several people entangled in great difficulties like disease, weakness, unemployment, family quarrels, litigation, violence, absence of conjugal happiness, instability and weakness of mind, daughter's marriage, apprehension about the future, fear of not getting success in examination, bondage to evil habits etc. have been able to overcome such challenges by Gayatri Sadhana.
At the root of all difficulties lie some attitudinal flaws. With the growth of virtues there is change in one's food, habits, daily routine, outlook and nature. This change becomes the key for removing such flaws and establishing happiness and peace. Many a times our desires, cravings and passions are such that they are not in keeping with our worth and circumstances. With purification of mind a prudent man abandons delusions and stops becoming needlessly unhappy. Ordinary people weep and cry when they face calamity due to unavoidable destiny but a Gayatri Sadhak, on account of his increased spiritual awareness, faces them calmly.
Gayatri Sadhana is also performed averting a particular crisis and fulfilling specific needs. The results are often astonishing. It has been observed that where utter darkness, failure, apprehension and fear prevailed, a divine light emerged, hopelessness was transformed into hopefulness and difficult tasks become easy by the grace of Vedmata. Having seen several such instances, it has become my firm belief that Gayatri Sadhana is never in vain.
Gayatri Sadhana is a sure spiritual technique for developing latent spiritual powers. Many people practice wrestling and do physical exercise to win a wrestling bout. If per chance a person loses a wrestling bout it should not be considered that his efforts have been wasted. Such a practice strengthens his physique and he gets its advantage throughout his life. Good health, vibrancy, longevity, capacity to do hard work, marital happiness, good progeny, fearlessness from enemies and similar other advantages are in no way inferior to winning a wrestling bout. If due to destiny a specific purpose is not fulfilled by Sadhana it is certain that immense advantage has accursed to the Sadhak in terms of his inner soul growth.
Soul is the repository of countless divine powers (riddhi-siddhi). The immortal soul, which is the prince of Omnipotent God-head, possesses all His divine powers. But just as a live charcoal covered with and becomes dimmed so also, due to internal impurities, the light of the soul becomes dimmed. By Gayatri Sadhana the dark dense covering of impurities gets removed and the soul of the Sadhak manifests with divine powers (Riddhi-Siddhi) and shines brilliantly with Brahmatej. A Gayatri Sadhak attains high goals with little effort, which the yogis attain with difficult prolonged Tapasya.
This effect of Gayatri Sadhana is seen from time to time even in the present day. During the last fifty or hundred years, hundreds of persons have achieved wonderful results by Gayatri Sadhana and have made their lives so elevated, that thousands of people have received inspiration from them. Gaya tri Sadhana has the capacity of uplifting the soul to great spiritual heights.

In the ancient times, eminent seer had undergone great penance and performed yog-sadhana and had achieved Riddhi-Siddhi like anima, mahima etc. the basis of which was Gayatri Sadhana. Ancient scriptures are full of descriptions of miraculous powers which they possessed. Such illumined souls are present even today and they are of the view that there is no other as sure and easy a way of achieving success in yog-marg as Gayatri Sadhana. All the emperors of virtue of Suryavansh and Chandravansh were worshippers of Gayatri. By virtue of this divine power, Brahmans were called Jagatgurus and Kshtriyas as emperors. This is an eternal truth and is as effective now as it was in the past. No one who takes refuge in Gayatri Mata with devotion is ever disappointed.

The Revolution of Consciousness

In our ordinary state of ignorance, living only on the lower planes of existence, we identify ourselves with our bodies and lower minds. We feel ourselves to be different and separate from the world and from our fellow human beings; and we erect social barriers to demarcate our sense of psychic separation- walls of creed or caste, sex, race or nationality. We draw narrow circles around ourselves and those whose bodies and lower minds (philosophies, beliefs and prejudices) are similar to ours; and then we say to others, "Get out! You do not belong to our circle!" … "You are a foreigner!" …. "You do not belong to my church (temple, mosque)." …. This false sense of identification with our lower selves has created endless conflicts in the history of the earth.
But, in fact, only our physical bodies and our conscious and subconscious minds are different and separate from one another; on the level of super-conscious mind and the infinite self, all are One.
Those who have elevated their minds beyond the lower layers of their existence transcend all psychic and social barriers and attain universal vision. Realizing that all minds are part of that Universal Mind, waves in that ocean of Infinite Supreme and they feel an unbroken stream of love pouring out of them, flowing to all alike. They have embraced the universe as their own.
A poet once wrote, "He drew a circle and shut me out ….. But love and I drew a greater circle and took him in." The love-circle of such elevated souls is infinite - its center is everywhere and its circumference nowhere.
Only those with such an all-expanded, universal vision can bring about true unity and harmony on earth, for their all-embracing love is the solvent which dissolves all differences.
Today, there is a dire need of such love. There is too much hostility and fear, contempt and domination in the world, and not enough warm affection, respect and trust. This is due to the false and narrow ideologies which are constricting the psychic spheres of human beings - materialistic philosophies which confine us to the lower levels of self. The present human society, with its heavy emphasis on material and economic success and its total neglect of psychic and spiritual development. Materialistic economic theories such as capitalism and communism, recognizing only the existence of lower, material needs, have propagated false values; and the frantic scrambling to satiate the endless desires of the lower mind has bred frustration and greed, exploitation and strife.
Today a new, healthy human society must be created which not only fulfills physical needs byt fosters psychic and spiritual elevation as well, guided by those with universal vision, whose every thought is for the good of all. The world desperately needs their soothing touch of love.
There must be a comprehensive ideology which embraces all levels of human existence and which includes a practical psychic process to elevate us to the highest levels of lour being and realize our oneness. Then alone, can we shatter all the barriers which have turned us against each other in hate.
The leaders of such a society will have love and sympathy for the whole world, because they are not attached to any nation, race, caste, creed or sex; their lives are attuned to the life of the universe. There is no possibility for them to hate or harm or exploit any creature of the world, because they look upon e very body as themselves. Then all humanity will be encouraged to attain self-realization, and all people will cooperate to fulfill their potentialities and utilize their collective resources for the welfare of all.
Thus, the practical foundation for a universalistic society where people are truly in harmony with one another is an individual mental process by which the leaders and members of that society are regularly, expanding their minds to experience their essential unity. There is no use in trying to reform our political, economic and social systems if our minds are not reformed; the continuous effort to elevate our minds by meditation is the prerequisite for social change.

The first revolution is the revolution of consciousness.

The Sound of Silence

This then, is the goal of our journey; to transcend one by one the grosser levels of existence until we reach the Supreme State where the mind ceases and the self shines in its infinite effulgence.
This sublime height of realization is beyond reason, beyond thought, beyond minding itself - how then can it be described? Here "the guru is dumb and the disciple is deaf." When the Buddha was asked by his disciple, "Does the Supreme Consciousness exist?" he was silent. The disciple asked, "Then does the Supreme Consciousness not exist?" Again, the Buddha remained silent.
A pious man once sent his two sons to learn spiritual knowledge from a preceptor. After a few years, they returned home, and the father questioned the two boys about what they had learned. He asked the older boy, "My child, you have studied all the scriptures. Tell me, what is the nature of the Supreme?" The boy began to recite many versed from the scriptures, but the father was not satisfied. He asked the younger child the same question. The boy remained silent and stood with his eyes cast down. No word escaped from his lips. The father said, "He has understood. It cannot be expressed in words."
Those who realize this infinite state of consciousness, the sages say, are like the people who saw a high wall and were curious to know what was on the other side. One of them, with much effort, climbed to the top and looked over and cried with wonder and joy, "Oh! Oh!" Suddenly, he leaped to the other side of the wall and disappeared. The others liked at each other wonderingly and shouted, "What is it over there?" But there was no answer from the other side, so another made the difficult climb, and he too gazed with blissful awe beyond the wall. In the same way, he cried with joy and jumped out of sight. In this way, one by one, they scaled the wall and disappeared in ecstasy.
No one can explain the bliss of transcending the mind and realizing the self. It has to be experienced for one-self.

Once a salt doll went to measure the depths of the ocean. It wanted to tell others how deep the water was. But this it could never do, for as soon as it got into the water, it melted. Now who was there to report the ocean's depth?

To-day's Problems are the Result of Man's Wicked Thinking

The basis of downfall is perversity in thinking. Living in want, indigence, grief and sorrow, malice - all these maladies are going form bad to worse, their root cause in the fallen level of thinking.
To-day we find individuals immersed in too much anxiety and pain and the society ravaged by innumerable problems. The only reason behind the atmosphere of unrest, doubt, suspicion and discontent that we see everywhere is increase of wickedness in man's thinking and such thinking turning to wicked activities. If this tide can be blocked, if persons can be trained to explain the morality of idealism, then situations can be completely turned around. People's capacity, currently engaged in divisive, immoral activities, if turned around and engaged in resurgence of goodness and nurturing goodwill, then in no time the situations can change radically for the better. The current hell-like atmosphere can then change in no time to a heavenly atmosphere. Therefore we should grasp this very important reality which others are not aware of and get involved with all our heart for the removal of wickedness and re-establishment of goodness. This unnoticed effort may not get us any applause, but because of its usefulness its importance is so much that there are no words to describe it.

The 'Gyan Yagya Abhiyan' (campaign for spreading knowledge) is one of the most creative in history. Its method of working is to make door to door contacts and to provide healthy and proper solutions to the problems for the people and the society. After a1000 year's slavery, the thinking of Nepalese people has become very distorted and perverse, and many of their beliefs, but people consider these as traditions, still cling to them and thereby suffer from a variety of hardships. The purpose of Gyan Yagya (the campaign for the spread of knowledge) is to awaken the discretion of the individual to enable him to understand the difference between what is proper and improper and to arouse the courage to discard the improper and accept what is proper.

Twenty-First Century - A century of Women

Believe it or not, the future is passing into the hands of women. This has not happened by chance. Women have carried out deep penance since time immemorial for achieving it. By achieving the highest development of their total powers, they have achieved this glory. Guru, mother, sister, and wife - in all these forms the woman has obliged man in countless ways and these countless blessings can be joyfully compared to divine blessings. Society to-day wants to repay those obligations.
Woman's uplift is essential for proper molding of individuals. Only then the molding of the family and the creation of a fine society is possible. Woman is the life-breath of the family. If we have to think of our own and world's welfare, woman must be considered as man's equal. World's welfare can be thought of only after thinking of women's uplift. Both struggle and resurgence of a new era of goodness are together in this major problem, therefore for fulfilling it, extraordinary man-power, means and dynamic courage are required. The secret of man's progress lied in woman's progress only.
The times are dynamically changing. This is seen in the fast changes occurring with the passing over of 20th century into a new era. Simultaneously woman has recognized her own inner vitality, her own inner strength. Woman herself is trying for her own uplift. She is not willing to spend her life at a level lower than man's. The support of time is with her. It will not do not to recognize her, nor suppress her. These days one can see a tremendous vitality of the people getting organized properly.
It is the Creator's wish that now woman should come forward and her superiority be once again conferred on her. It is His wish that woman should give the proof of her velour and show by actual deeds how she has uprooted widespread backwardness and how she has replaced it with progress.
We are calling the twenty-first century as the Century of the Woman because Nature is in her favor and from the viewpoint of special qualities, she is very much better than man and simultaneously Nature is in the process of breaking the old order and creating a new one. Only the woman fits into this plan. This movement of women's uplift will make woman equal to man.
The cyclonic speed of the new era will rest only after liberating the woman from her backward, inferior position and making her capable of taking advantage of human rights. Woman will have her own independent existence in the 21st century, and she will get the opportunity of developing her own individual identity. In the coming days, not the color of her skin and beauty, but her individuality will be considered as everything. The same amount of time and money will be utilized for girls' education, health, and developing their skill, as is employed for boys.

Only such transformation will sustain and maintain the long-term role of Yug Parivartan (transformation of the era). The main basis of the future 'Satyugi Parivartan' (transformation bringing goodness of thinking and conduct among people) will be that the entire leadership be given to woman- woman whom nature has made full of love, co-operation and compassion. Seeing that welfare lies in woman's power, we should not leave any stone unturned for furthering woman's power. One who has always given the proof of selfless love for husband, children and family at every step; she will create the same atmosphere in the area of her influence when given the leadership.

Vocal Cord Internal Chanting

Some religions and spiritual practices use verbal chanting, prayer, or reading sacred books aloud in an effort to divert the mind from its ordinary mundane preoccupations and channel it towards the divine. Although this has a definite beneficial effect, it cannot elevate the mind to the highest state, because by this method, the vocal cord is still in operation, and also the ear organ is hearing one's own voice; and thus the conscious mind is still active. Yoga meditation, however, uses a process for concentration which is completely internal by which the vocal cord is not used at all - a process which we will discuss later.
Thus, merely by sitting in the lotus posture, silently and motionlessly, and folding the hands, we have succeeded in inactivating all the five motor organs, hands, feet, vocal cord gentry and excretory organs.

Suspending the sense organs: Closing the Eyes
Then the eyes are closed. In some forms of concentration, a candle is used, and the concentrator starts fixedly at the candle flame. Indeed, by this process one develops some psychic powers, for intense concentration always creates mental force. This technique is often employs by hypnotists and those interested only in utilizing the lower powers of the mind. But it cannot lead to the subtlest state of awareness because the eye organ and thus the conscious mind are still in operation, making it more difficult to dive deep inside the mind. So in meditation we close the eyes.

Turning off the Nose and Ears: Visualization
What about the nose and ears? They are not so easy to close! When you are sitting by an open window above the roar of traffic in the street below, and the next door neighbor is frying some savory dish, how to prevent these sensations from disturbing your mind? For this there is a specific process of visualization to withdraw the mind from all external vibrations. Now psychologists are realizing the tremendous power of visualization in creating mental states, particularly altered states of consciousness. In meditation, we use a specific visualization to imagine that we are far away from the external disturbances - sounds and smells - that may agitate our minds. By this technique, we completely isolate ourselves mentally from the external world; one may be sitting in the busiest city on earth and yet feel the same internal peace, silence and solitude as if he or she were sitting on a Himalayan peak. This is one of the higher practices of meditation, so it can only be learned personally from a trained instructor of Ananda Marga.

Tongue Turned Back and Skin Un-stimulated
To remove the sensation of taste, the tongue is turned back in the mouth in a specific position which effectively stops the operation of the taste organ. And by another internal visualization (which must also be learned individually from the instructor), the mediator withdraws all awareness from the physical body, so all tactile disappear and the skin organ becomes inactive.

All ten Sense and Motor Organs Inactive
Thus, by sitting motionlessly in the proper posture with the hands folded, eye closed, tongue turned back in the mouth, and mind withdrawn from external physicality, all the ten sense and motor organs have been controlled and the conscious mind completely stilled (silence have found in their experiments on yogis that in deep meditation they are completely oblivious to external stimuli. When a loud noise sounds in their ears, or a bright light shines on their eyes, or a hot iron rod touches their hands, they do not respond to the stimuli at all).

This is the correct process of sensory withdrawal, and at the end of it, without using a tube of warm water or any painful, difficult or complicated techniques, the mediator has easily transcended the conscious mind and enters deep into the subconscious state. Thus, it is said that meditation actually begins with the subconscious mind.

How to Dissociate From Body-Consciousness?

In order to overcome the confusion between the narrow lower self and the Real Self, in the state of meditation visualize that you and your body are two separate entities and you are using your body as your garment or a tool. Try to understand your body as you consider your garments. Visualize that your "I" would continue to exist even after the body has been discarded. Conceptually leaving the body, look at it from a higher level. Look at the body as though it were a hollow nest, in which you live and could easily come out of it. Consider yourself as the caretaker of this house, who is responsible for its sanitation (keeping it pure in thoughts and deeds), strength (keeping it strong) and functionality (physical activity). You are the master of the body and are using it as per your own free will. In this way, conceive: "I" am not this body. It is only My tool. "I" am using it only as a rest house. This body is built up with five basic elements of nature collected by "ME" (my real self) for giving it a desired appearance. (Scriptures tell that soul acquires a body and environment conforming to the traits brought forward from previous births i. e. the inherent traits from previous births are the building blocks of the mind and body of the new born.) During meditation, totally forget about your body and concentrate your thoughts and emotions on "I" as an independent conscious entity. Then you will become aware that the soul has an immortal existence independent of the body. Having had this awareness, whenever you will say "I", this expression will have an altogether a new meaning for you.
(However, it does not mean that you are required to ignore your body. Doing so will be disastrous. Considering body as the temple of soul it is your solemn duty to protect it in every way and keep it healthy and strong).

Paranormal visions and experiences
In the initial stages of Sadhana, the foregoing practice of dissociation from body-consciousness remains an entertaining and relaxing exercise, but as this imagery begins to take roods, the practitioner may feel as though he had actually died and may have such visions which one has at the time of death. There may be flashes of paranormal visions of those things, which are not physically visible at the place of meditation through normal sight. Hazy images of the extra-sensory world (sookshma Jagat) may be seen. Many other-worldly forms and heavenly scenes may appear. It may frighten the beginners, though there is nothing to be afraid of. Sometimes acceleration in the process of Sadhana, because of virtuous traits brought forward from the previous births and latent memories stored in the deeper levels of consciousness (also from previous births) become suddenly activated. This acceleration uplifts the mind to higher dimensions of awareness. With the passage of time, the Sadhak gradually becomes accustomed to paranormal experiences and such occurrences no more surprise of frighten him. With steady progress, the seeker acquires the capability to dissociate the soul from the body at will which, rising beyond the body, becomes aware of phenomena beyond physical sense perception. In this state, however, the soul of the practitioner does not actually leave the body but, like a person sticking out his neck out of a window to look outside and then withdrawing it at will, is able to transcend the limits of the body, without serving connection with it.

The beginners are advised not to be in a hurry to have occult and paranormal visions and experiences. It would tantamount to violating the natural process of gradual spiritual advancement. In due course, worthy seekers will be initiated into the technique of accessing the domains of paranormal visions (Paroksha Darshan). Here a passing reference to such experiences is considered necessary, so that when such visions do appear the Sadhak does not get frightened or nervous.

Household Atmosphere

Wife of the great philosopher Socrates was very ill-nature. His house was always crowded by his followers' and visitors and she detested it. She scorned at guests instead of welcoming them.
One day the gathering was especially large and Socrates was delivering his discourse. His wife felt disturbed by the crowd and got angry. Filled with rage she went up to the balcony and started shouting at his followers angrily shouting them to go away from the house. Socrates signaled his followers not to listen to her and continued with his discourse. This enraged her even more and she started throwing dirty water on the gathering as well as hurling at them.
Socrates did not lose his calm and instead remarked jokingly "Did you all see, till now, clouds were thundering and now it has started raining as well". The people in the gathering broke into laughter.
One of the qualities of great men is their ability to deal with ill-tempered people with gentle humor.
-------------------------------------------------XXX--------------------------------------------------------------------
Good thoughts and actions can never produce bad results; bad thoughts and actions can never produce good results. This is but saying that nothing can come from corn but corn, nothing but nettles from nettles. Most people know that this law works in the physical world and hence act accordingly; but very few people understand that it also operates in the subtle and causal realms, and as a result they do not follow it.
Suffering is always the effect of wrong thoughts in some direction. It is an indication that the individual is out of harmony with himself, with the law of his being. The sole and supreme aim of suffering is to purify, to burn out all that is useless and impure. Suffering ceases for a person who is pure. There is no point in burning gold after the dross has been removed.
-------------------------------------------------XXX--------------------------------------------------------------------
Truth when spoken is never soothing is never the truth. Goodness will never create enemies and enmity will never lead to goodness. Wise men speak very rarely and those who talk excessively are never wise.
-------------------------------------------------XXX--------------------------------------------------------------------
A time comes in most men's live when the bell rings for prayer, and unhappy are they who, when it does, have nowhere to carry their heart's supplications.

Hormones in the Human Body

Transplantation of different organs of the human body has now become possible because of the advancement of medical science and technology. However, no progress has yet been made in the field of surgical operations of the hormonal glands. In case of kidney or lung failure, the damaged or diseased organ is replaced and the transplanted organ gives almost a new and healthy life to the patients…; legs, hands or ribs etc. - Lost or damaged due to an accident or disease - can be replaced or given mechanical support to run the chores of the body…. But trying a surgical operation or medical treatment on the hormone secreting (endocrine) glands is dangerous like putting one's hands in fire. In pure anatomical terms, these glands do not seem to play any role and appear as unnecessary 'abscess', which could be cut and removed without any apparent trouble. However, as stated earlier, doing so could invite abnormalities that might prove to be worse than death.
Deeper research into the effects of hormones has reveled that not only the bodily functions but the complex mental reflections and emotions are also associated with the endocrine system. The endocrine glands play a major role in shaping the overall personality of an individual. Graham Hazscrines has indicated these aspects in his work on 'Endocrine Glands and body Adjustments'. He writes that - "Until the recent past, the effects of hormonal secretions were considered to be more intense on the body and only partially associated with mental conditions. However, now these convictions have changed and we have to accept their dominance over the mental activities too".
In his book entitled 'Machinery of the Body', J. Carlson has highlighted, besides the gross effects on sexual desire and reproductive potency, the effects of hormones on the psychological compatibility of married couples. He further writes that the inherent mentality of a child is also based on his hormones, heredity and genetic connections molecular levels. A natural question that arises here is -- "What is the original source of exhilaration or suppression of the specificity of a gene or a pool of genes?" In depth investigations on such issues would show that it is the regulatory machinery of the hormones, which controls the transmission of inherent biological characteristics and behavioral tendencies from one generation to the other and also gives originality to an individual.
Occurrences of phenotypes and tendencies that are different from immediate ancestors are often attributes by the geneticists to the manifestations of the genotypes inherited from hundreds of generations ago. They tend to neglect the fact that the stimulation of specific hormone driven activity can bring drastic changes in any generation.
Professor Dorsap of the Endocrinology Department of the Chicago University has found the juicy secretions from the spleen as of utmost important for proper functioning of the digestive system and the metabolic activities. He describes these secretions as regulators of the healthy functioning of the stomach and the intestines too. According to him, one likes or disliking for different types of foods also depends on the spleen-secretions.

There are many examples where poor people who hardly eat any fatty substances are found to be very bulky; the fat or overweight of many people does not reduce despite abstaining from eating potatoes, rice, sugar and fatty eatables. Such observations indicated that obesity or weight of the body does not necessarily depend on the type of food. Similar facts are seemed in case of the condition of individual organs and subsystems of the body. Even when the structure and physical health of the brain is normal, one's mind might become sick or overexcited or his power of thinking might turn illusive, unreasonable or insane. In such situations, treatment of the gross components of the brain would not serve any purpose; because the organs function like 'puppets' under the regulatory control of the endocrine system. The latter is mainly responsible for efficient or defective functioning of the otherwise healthy faculties of the body and mind. What controls the endocrine system? Every attempt to decipher this enigmatic code leads to a labyrinth of further queries in Endocrinology, Neurochemistry, psychology and related sciences. Recent findings at the interface of Neurosciences and Yoga and Spirituality add entirely new dimension with exciting hopes! Future articles under this column will take us further along this intriguing quest in the amazing world of our 'own' Hormones.

Give Five Gems in Heritage to the Children

Orderliness peace and progress of a society depends on its citizens. The character of the citizens depends on their upbringing and character - formation during their childhood. The upbringing of children cannot be done properly until the parents obtain the proper knowledge about it. To have children is not a matter of good fortune. Only when they become knowledgeable and worthy, then it is a matter of good fortune. Parents leave behind a legacy of wealth, fields, agriculture, gold and silver, money, trade etc for their children. It helps somewhat in carrying on their life, but all these things are irrelevant from the point of view of development of character. When the character is of a low level and the person is in the grip of laziness and procrastination, the heir wastes away the wealth or otherwise Lakshmi (the Goddess of wealth) leaves his abode because she finds him ignorant and disorganized. He can never have peace of mind in his life. Those who want their children to be really happy and their futures bright, it will be proper for them to imbue their children with good qualities. This bestowing of good qualities is possible only for those who themselves have something of their own. Only the rich can leave behind money for their children but only a virtuous person can leave a legacy of developed character for his children.
Children's understanding is undeveloped, they are not able to understand lectures properly but their power of imitation is very strong. They easily learn whatever they see and immediately imitate it.
1. The lesson of toil: If we wish that our children do not become lazy and do not shirk work, then we must put before them the example of toil and involvement in work and just like us, prepare a time-table for them to be involved in some work.
2. Generosity is another virtue. Children usually fight with their brothers and sisters. They indulge in quarrels and grabbing and snatching for items of food and drink, toys or some other things. This habit should never be encouraged, instead they must be taught to share sweets etc with their brothers and sisters and then eat. Nobody can destroy peace and love when there is a policy of forget and forgive, remembering one's duty and forgetting one's right. Generosity is the biggest guarantee for peace in the family
3. Cleanliness and simplicity: Cleanliness is the third virtue. One's things should not be out of place. Clothes, shoes, vessels, books, pen etc are normally thrown here and there by children who immediately forget, and go about their work. They must be taught that only after completing one work another work should be undertaken and untidiness should be despised.
4. Good use of time: Working by a time-table in daily life is an important quality for putting human-life to good use. Most people do not understand the value of time. Enterprise is the other name for the good use of time.

5. Courtesy and gentlemanliness: Politeness, gentlemanliness, courteous conduct, pleasant speech, goodness - these are the qualities by which other people get attracted to us, have compassion for us, become our admirers and become cheerful in our company. The quality of making others our own lies only in honesty and goodness in dealing or conduct with others. In the school that is family, the practice of goodness, gentlemanliness and pleasantness must be taught to the children from childhood only. The elders in the family when talking to the juniors should address them with respect.

Getting Past the Subconscious Mind

So you have stilled your senses and gone beyond your conscious mind into the subconscious. Now what is happening inside your mind?
Everything. Visions, pictures, memories, plans, anxieties. They are flooding your mind in a torrent. You remember everything you did during the day and plan everything you will tomorrow. Your regret auguring with your friend and losing your temper a your mother. You worry about the children, or you wonder when you will get married, and to whom. You picture the new car you wish you had. You plan what you are going to eat as soon as you finish meditation, and you imagine, yourself eating it. You write a letter in your mind. You make your shopping list for tomorrow. You analyze your character and praise your own virtues, and analyze the people you know and criticize their faults.
Then you start to wonder, "What good is this meditation anyway? I'm supposed to get mental peace, but I am thinking more than over before!" Your mind is rattling and churning, and ideas are flying everywhere like popcom popping from the pot when the lid is suddenly removed. The internal activity of the subconscious mind is usually repressed by the intense activity of the conscious mind, which is outwardly directed into the external world, (only people like artists, poets and day-dreamers' are accustomed to giving their subconscious minds full rein).  So when the conscious repression is suddenly released, as in dreaming, the subconscious mind bursts into activity and there you are, sitting there with your head clattering with images and thoughts.
This is why many people find it difficult to perform certain types of meditation that seek merely to "empty the mind" or to " think of nothings/" It is impossible to think of nothing. The mind must always have some object. Even if you think that you are thinking of nothing, you are actually thinking, "Aha! I am finally thinking about nothing!"
Let us make an experiment: please close your eyes for thirty seconds and think about anything you like, except a RED COW.
You just couldn't help it, could you? That big red cow kept coming back into your mind, whatever you tried to do to get rid of it.
And if you tell your mind to think about nothing, it will vengefully erupt in an avalanche of thoughts and feelings.

There must be a better way. And there is. It has been tried and tented for thousands of years - the most efficient and practical process to pierce through the disturbances of th subconscious mind and enter the blissful, super-conscious state. It is called MANTRA - "that which liberated the mind."

Gayatri Sadhana in Nava Durga

Although, winter, summer and rains have been described to be three seasons, strictly speaking there are only two seasons, namely winter and summer. The period of conjunction when one season ends and the other starts is known as Nava Durga.
The time when day and night meet is known as morning or evening twilight (Sandhaya-kal) and this is considered to be an important period. Taking of food, sleeping, indulging in sex, commencing journey and similar other works are, forbidden at the time of sunrise and sunset. This time has to be utilized in meditation, worship, Sadhana etc. for which it is best suited and yields wonderful results with minimum effort. The meeting period of summer and winter is an auspicious period like morning and evening twilight. As the story goes in Purans, seasons become menstruation during these nine days of Nava-Durga. Just as all precautions are taken in respect of food, rest, behavior etc. during the period of menstruation, similarly, precautions have to be taken during these periods of Nava-Durga.
Physician know it well that there is great impact on the body due to change in seasons in the month of Ashwin and Chaitra and several persons catch fever, influenza, small-pox, diarrhea, dejection etc. The hospitals remain flooded with patients these days. Vaidyas who deal in Ayurvedic medicine and naturopathy consider this period of Ashwin and Chaitra most suitable for stimulating vomiting, purgation, perspiration and similar other acts for purification of the body. Both Nava-Durgas are followed by important festivals of Dashaehra and Ramnawami. Goddess Durga manifested herself at the end of Ashwin Nava-Durga. Bhagwan Ram incarnated at the end of Chaitra Nava-Durga.
Apparently this period of change of season appears to be harmful because most of the people suffer from one ailment or the other. But in fact this is not so. The immune system of the body tries to set right all defects and diseases which develop on account of transgressions committed during the previous six months in food and daily routine. The process of self-purification manifests itself in the form of cough, cold, fever e tc. I f the  body gets an opportunity to cleanse itself by observing fast and taking limited balanced diet and the mind remains engrossed in Jap and worship, physical and mental impurities can be easily thrown out and health fully restored. This small Anusthan of Gayatri is, therefore, extremely useful from health point of view also.
Nava-Durga falls in Shukla Paksha from pratipada to navami in Ashwin and Chaitra. This is the time best suited for Gayatri Sadhana. Jap of twenty-four thousand Mantras should be performed and fast should be observed during these days. This mini Sadhana is as useful as a big Anusthan.
Food consisting of cereals at one time and milk and fruits or milk or fruits should be taken at the other time. Those who can afford to remain on the diet of fruits and milk or milk along can do so if their health permits.  The Sadhak should get up early and sit for Sadhana in the small hours of the morning (Brahma-Muhurta) after finishing daily routine like bath etc. in the manner already prescribed. Twenty-four thousand Japas are to be performed in nine days. This can be done by performing Jap of 27 rosaries daily, which would take three to four hours. If it appears to be strenuous to complete Jap in one sitting, a major portion of it should be finished in the morning and balance in the evening. Havan or Yagya of 108 Mantras should be performed on the last day. Offering of money in charity and feeding of Brahmans should also be done as mentioned earlier.
This small Anusthan of nine days should be performed by the Sadhak himself in both the Nava-Durgas every year. If for some reason it is not possible for a person to do it himself, it can be got accomplished by some competent capable Brahman, Sadhana done during these days proves to be extremely useful for getting rid of anxieties, fulfilling desires and developing spiritual power.

This small Anusthan can also be done at any time besides Nava-Durga. Anusthan of 1, 25,000 Jap in forty days is a complete Anusthan and the smaller one of nine days is its one fifth parts, which should be done according to convenience and need. The wealth of Tap, devout austerity, should be amassed in as large a measure as may be possible.

Gayatri Sadhana for house-wives

God has not discriminated between a son and a daughter. Only persons of crude mentality do so. Women should refuse to listen to the biased views of any person who says that women have no right to do Gayatri Sadhana. They can worship it and also perform Yagya. Keeping in view the fact that they remain busy throughout the day, a brief routine of Gayatri Sadhana, including Yagya, convenient to all women is being presented here.
Most of the housewives are extremely busy in the morning in cleaning work, preparing breakfast and doing other daily household chores. In the morning the children go to school and male members have to go out for work and everybody is in a hurry. Most of the household work in the morning has to be done by the house-wife in the morning, although daughters, elderly ladies also give a helping hand. Morning time, therefore, does not suit most of the women-folk for Sadhana. In the evening also other is a similar pressure of work on them. Keeping all these factors in view, the time between 12 noon to 3 pm appears to be most convenient to them for performing Anusthan-Sadhana etc. Of course, they can perform Jap of one mala (rosary) in the morning after taking bath.
If they happen to do mental Jap while cooking meals there will be good effect on all the persons who will take that food. Regular Jap should be suspended during the period of menses. Mental Jap can, however, be performed in all circumstances. Women who put on Yagyopaveed should replace it by a new one after the period of menstruation.
If women are enthusiastic about maintaining holy atmosphere in the house, it will have salutary impact on other members of the family, who will feel automatically inclined to lead virtuous lives. For this, by way of daily routine, members of the family should not only greet and salute the elders daily in the morning but they should also bow in front of the picture of Gayatri Mata placed in the family worship place and chant Gayatri Mantra few times.
In the evening, after the members of the family are free from their meals etc. the children should be entertained by reading over them inspiring stories published by the Gayatri Mission, folders etc, which they can easily understand, so that mind and emotions are oriented towards virtuous life. To inspire the elderly members, Pragyapuran, published in four volumes should be read over the whole family daily Geeta and Ramayana. This program can be continued for months. After finishing one reading the process can be repeated again and again.
Keeping in view the fact that people are extremely busy these days and there is general lack of faith and devotion, religious routines which are interesting to all can be adopted. Being masters of the kitchen, women can easily accomplish this sacred task. At the time of preparation of food, the first chapati should be divided into five morsels and chanting Gayatri Mantra each morsel should be offered in the fire along with some ghee and sugar. The tradition of Yagya is an integral part of Nepalese culture. This process of offering bread-pieces in the fire is symbolic worship and keeps the sentiments of sacrifice, (yagya) alive in us.

While feeding a suckling child, mothers should do mental Jap of Gayatri Mantra. It will be good if they meditate upon the luminous God, Savita.

Gayatri Sadhana as Eulogized in the Ancient Scriptures

Adverse circumstances were transformed into favorable ones. Dangers which hovered like dark clouds disappeared. Whosoever tried to verify the veracity of those narrations found them to be entirely true?
A period of about thirty years has passed since those miraculous events occurred. Since then, the number of such unusual events has gone up to lakhs. Narration of even a fraction of these miraculous happenings will constitute a voluminous book. It has, therefore, been considered prudent not to publish them because it will raise shallow curiosities. Such an undertaking will be a waste of time and energy, which can be better utilized for tasks that really matter.
Therefore, not a single event of worldly achievements has been narrated in this article and readers are advised to consider this article alone as their guide and get engaged in Sadhana with faith and devotion. Some extracts from the ancient scriptures are, however, being given here about advantages and importance of Gayatri Sadhana.

Advantage of Gayatri Jap
One can get a glimpse of the advantages which accrue as a result of Gayatri jap from the following spiritual quotations. It has specifically been enjoined to be essential for Brahmans whose main preoccupation is search and cultivation of spiritual wisdom. A person gets such wisdom on following the path indicated by Gayatri.
"Gayatri jap should be performed daily as it is the essence of all Vedas and sacred Upanishads".
Sadhana of Gayatri Mantra is the essence of all Vedas. Even Gods like Brahma mediate on and perform Jap of Gayatri at the time of twilights.
A Brahman who has mastered Gayatri alone attains salvation.
One, who steadfastly performs Gayatri Jap daily with wakefulness for three years realize Brahma and, like air, acquires the power of free and unhindered movement.
Manu himself has stated that although a dwij may or may not perform worship of any other deity, he will attain absolute salvation by performing Gayatri Jap alone.
A person, who exercises self-restraint, controls his senses and performs Gayatri Jap along with "Omkar" and vyahrities is known as 'shroutriya'

Merely by offering water to the sun and performing Jap of three thousand Gayatri Mantras at the time of twi-lights, a person becomes beloved of God.

Gayatri is Spiritual Triveni

Some instances about the importance of Gayatri have been furnished in the fore-going pages. It is difficult to consolidate and publish all of them. Ganga, Geeta, Gau (cow) and Gayatri, these four are pillars of Nepali culture. Every person who believes in Hindu religion reveres them like mother and feels a special sense of mutual bounding with all others with similar faith.
Gayatri has been called spiritual Triveni. The confluence of Ganga and Yamuna creates an invisible, subtle, divine river which is known as Saraswati and the confluence of these three is known as Triveni. On account of this Triveni. Prayag is called king of all the Teerths. In the same way Gayatri is Triveni of the spiritual world. Its first letter 'ga' is suggestive of Ganga; second letter 'ya' of Yamuna and third 'tri' of Triveni. Several trios viz. Sat- Chit- Anand, Satyam (truth)- Sivam -Sundaram (beauty), Sat- Raj- Tam, Iswar (God)- Jeev (soul) - Prakriti (quality), Rik - Yaju - Sam, Gun (virtue - Karma (action) - swabhav (nature), Shaishav (Childhood) - Yauvan (youth) - Budhapa (old age), Brahma - Bishnu - Mahesh, Utpati (creation) - Vridhi (growth) - Nash (destruction), Sardi (winter) - Garmi (summer) - Varsha (rainy season), Dharma (righteousness) - Arth (wealth) - Kam (sensual enjoyment), Akash (space) - Patal ( nether-most world) - prithivi (earth), De v (God) - Manushya (man) - Asur (demon) etc . are interwoven and lie embedded  in Gayatri Chand. One who observes deeply by meditation and contemplation, these trinities gets the same spiritual merit as one gets in the material world by taking a dip in Trivent. These various trios represent various kinds of problems which the Sadhak is required to face and by solving which he attains the ultimate goal of self-realization.
The three currents of Triveni appear to be vast, deep and daunting. In the same way Gayatri Sadhana appears to be very difficult. But just as a fear disappears and tranquilizing cheerfulness is attained by taking a dip in Triveni, so also by thinking contemplating and probing deep into various aspects of Gayatri Sadhana a person attains such spiritual insight which inspires him to follow righteous path and ultimately leads him to eternal peace and bliss. Gayatri, undoubtedly, is spiritual Triveni, it is teerthraj because the philosophy underlying it is easy, simple and intelligible and it leads to perennial happiness.

The importance and glory of Gayatri is infinite. Veda, Puran, Shastras, History, Rishi, Saints, house-holders all acknowledge its importance. It has a marvelous power of changing our outlook towards life. If our perverted thinking and mental back-ground are set right, our desires, aspirations, thoughts and sentiments get refined; we can rise higher than even the gods. Gayatri Sadhana can emancipate us from bondage to hellish perversions of envy, hatred, malice, ill will etc, thus manifesting in our lives the Divine attributes of Satyam, Shivam and Sundaram.

Gayatri is Kamdhenu (heavenly cow)

Kamdhenu Is believed to be the heavenly cow which gives nectar like milk. It is said that gods drink it and always remain in a state of self-satisfaction, happiness and abundance. The specialty of Kamdhenu is that the desire of a person approaching it is instantly fulfilled. Like Kalpa-vriksha, (heavenly tree) Kamdhenu, too, fulfills the desires of those who approach it with pragya and devotion.
Kamdhenu is another name of Gayatri. Devata means a person who possesses divine nature. If a person having divine nature worships this great power, he drinks spiritual milk from the breasts of the Divine Mother. He is saved from all botherations. The basic nature and characteristics of the individual soul is happiness. Its main attributes is to remain bathed in eternal bliss. No sooner does it get rid of ignorance induced pain and suffering it regains its original nature. Gods in heaven always remain happy. Man can also remain happy in the same manner on this earth if causes of his suffering are remove. Kamdhenu Gayatri removes all the sufferings of her devotees.

Deliverance from Suffering of Three Kinds:
The causes of all suffering are (a) ignorance, (b) infirmity and (c) inadequacy. A person becomes happy to the extent he is able to remove these causes of suffering from within him.
The outlook of a person about the world gets vitiated on account of ignorance. Being ignorant of his true identity he gets entangled in a false sense of identity with the transient phenomena and becomes unhappy. The feelings of selfishness, self-indulgence, greed, ego, narrow-mindedness and anger deflect a man from his duty. He abandons far-sightedness, hankers after money, materials, false name and fame-which are all transient and chimerical. Thus he strays away more and more from his true self which is the spark of the Divine. This separation from the source is the original sin. Sin automatically results in suffering. On account of ignorance he is unable to understand the basic purpose of his life in this world. Consequently, his hopes, cravings and imaginations know no end. On account of such a perverted outlook normal ups and downs of life make him laugh, cry and weep Death of a relative, differences in the tastes and temperament of colleagues, ups and down and fluctuation in circumstances are all natural but the ignorant man insists that what he wants much always happen and he should never be required to face adverse circumstances. When this does not happen as per his fancies and events unfold contrary to his wishes, he weeps and cries. Thus, ignorance leads to innumerable sufferings.
Infirmity means weakness. A man is unable to enjoy his natural basic rights on account of his physical, mental, social, intellectual and spiritual infirmities. Delicious dishes, beautiful damsels, sweet music, beautiful scenery have absolutely no meaning for a diseased person. He cannot enjoy money and wealth. How can one enjoy the joys of studying literature, poetry, philosophy etc. if he is intellectually bankrupt? Love, devotion, company of righteous persons and spiritual bliss can hardly be enjoyed by a person who is spiritually bankrupt. Nature's law of survival of the fittest works in eliminating the weak. The weak are always harassed and eliminated. Even positive, factors become quite unfavorable to such a man. W inter season which adds to the strength and vigor of strong persons and to the pleasures of an humorist becomes the cause for catching pneumonia causes of catching pneumonia, gout, rheumatism to a person of weak constitution. Factors which are debilitating for the weak prove invigorating for the strong. Even mighty emperors feel proud in adopting the figure of a roaring lion as the state emblem of their kingdom while the weak bleating goat is killed by wild animals or is sacrificed before the idol of Bhawani. The infirm, thus, always suffer and even favorable factors do not prove helpful to them.

Materials security is yet another cause for human suffering. Difficulties of several kinds have to be faced on account of scarcity of food, clothing, water, housing, cattle, land, companions, friends, money, medicines, books, weapons, teachers etc. and a person has to curtail his legitimate needs, suppress his feelings and waste his precious life. Even capable and competent persons feel themselves crippled beaten down for want of material resources.

Fulfilling Happy Married life

When one comes face to face with personal shortcomings during self-introspection, one must not feel dejected. One must strengthen these feelings ……
·         Like a brave soldier I am fighting this battle that would continue throughout lifetime.
·         All the bad samskaras my family members and I have acquired over countless previous births keep presenting obstacles in my path. Sometimes I err, sometimes they. Obstacles keep coming, but I would not let them discourage me.
·         I would fight all the difficulties I am faced with. When I trip and fall, I would not give up. I would get up again, shake off the dust and continue the fight.
·         I am walking the path of truth. I am a blissful soul and it is my duty to fight my and others' ill-tendencies and stop not till the victory is won.
·         I am true to my oath, my intent my sadhana and my ultimate goal
·         I shall continue to search for, identify and weed out all my faults, with the same fervor I started out with
The above mantra must be continuously contemplated upon along with assessment of success attained.
The above three great mantras; the fundamental tenets of Grahastha yoga, the oath of firmness, and the oath to fight the holy war against faults and shortcomings - must always resound at the core of a sadhak's mind keep him inspiring.
The ultimate objective of life is to make the individual soul unite with the Supreme Soul. To act for the good of all while forsaking individual selfish desires is the real spiritual endeavor (sadhana). There could be several different ways to pursue this sadhana in practical lives. Grahastha yoga is one such way. Sincere adoption of above guidelines of this yoga in practice will not only edify one's personal and family life but also contribute towards development of a better society.

Wife of the great philosopher Socrates was very ill-natured. His house was always crowded by his followers and visitors and she detested it.
This enraged her even more and she started throwing dirty water on the gathering as well as hurling abuses at them.
Socrates did not lose his calm and instead remarked jokingly "Did you all see, till now, clouds were thundering and now it has started raining as well". The people in the gathering broke into laughter.

One of the qualities of great men is their ability to deal with ill-tempered people with gentle humor.

Essential rules to be observed by Gayatri Sadhaks

A person engaged in Gayatri Sadhana is required to observe the following rules:
1.   The body should be cleaned by taking bath before sitting in Sadhana. In the event of any disability, seasonal un-favorableness or illness one can make do by washing hands and face or by taking a sponge bath with a wet cloth.
2.   One should wear as few clothes as possible at the time of Sadhana. If there is excessive cold a blanket may be used instead of putting on tight clothes.
3.   The Sadhak should find out an open secluded place for Sadhana where atmosphere is calm and quite. A field, garden, temple or the bank of a river or lake are best suited for this purpose. But, if such a place is not available, a clean calm and quite portion of the house can be selected.
4.   It is better to put on newly washed clothes while doing Sadhana.
5.   The Sadhak should sit in cross-legged, comfortable position so that there may not be difficulty in sitting in that posture for a long time, and the mind is not distracted by a sense of physical discomfort.
6.   The back-bone should be kept erect so that the spinal column remains straight and there is no obstruction in the flow of pran in Sushumna.
7.   One should not sit for Sadhana on bare ground. The energy which is generated flows out into the earth if one sits on the ground. A mat prepared of Kush is best for this purpose. In its absence one can sit on a cotton mat. Woolen and leather carpets are used only for Tantrik Sadhana of Gayatri.
8.   Rosary of Tulsi or Sandalwood beads should be used. Rosaries of Rudraksh, red-sandal-wood and conch-shells are used only for Tantrik Sadhana of Gayatri.
9.   Jap should be started two hours before sunrise. In the evening it should be finished an hour after sunset. Only Tantrik Sadhanas are performed around midnight. The non-tantrik Sadhanas should not be performed during the night.
10. Special attention should be paid in Sadhana to four matters. Firstly, the mind should not run hither and thither. If it does so, it should be gently persuaded to meditate on the beautiful image of the Mother. Secondly, there should be unflinching faith and belief in the Divine Mother. Person with wavering faith cannot derive full advantage of Sadhana. Thirdly, The Sadhak should resolutely stick to Sadhana. Lack of enthusiasm, dejection, ill-health, delay in getting benefits immediately and other worldly difficulties act as obstacles in Sadhana. Ignoring them, the Sadhak keeps on advancing on his way, fourthly, regularity or continuity is an essential rule of Sadhana. Howsoever, busy one may be, and even while placed in adverse circumstances, Mother's worship should not be interrupted. Irregularity in this respect is harmful. Due compliance of these four rules makes the progress in Sadhana smooth and sure.
11. Jap of one rosary or one hundred and eight Mantras should be performed daily. If more Jap could be done it is so much the better.
12. Before starting Sadhana some experienced righteous person should be made Sadhana-guru. It should be ascertained from the Guru which type of Sadhana is appropriate. A patient is not competent to diagnose and treat his own disease. He has to seek the help of some physician, similarly, a Sadhana-Guru is needed to suggest appropriate Sadhana to rectify drawbacks and solve difficulties.
13. The Sadhak should sit facing the East (towards the sun) in the morning and West in the evening.
14. If one feels tired in sitting in one posture there is no harm in changing the posture.
15. One being required to get up in between for answering the call of nature or for any urgent work, Sadhana can be resumed after washing hands, face etc. with pure water. In that event Jap of one additional rosary should be performed by way of penance for such an interruption.
16. If on any day there is break in Sadhana for some unavoidable reason additional Jap should be performed the next day by way of compensation.
17. Performance of Jap rosary should be stopped during the period of impurity, in the event of any death or birth in the family. Only mental Jap can be done during this period. If such an emergency arises during Anusthan of 1.25 lakh, it should be discontinued during this period and resumed after the expiring of the period of impurity. Additional Jap of one thousand Mantras should be performed for purification in lieu of such an interruption.
18. There is no necessity of taking bath during long journeys or illness. In such an event, mental Jap can be per formed during the journey or lying on bed during illness.
19. The food and daily routine of the Sadhak should be righteous (Satwik). In food, the sadhak should eat Satoguni, simple easily digestible food prepared by some pious person. Chilies, excessive spices and pungent articles, fried dishes, sweets, s tale good-stuffs kept overnight, meat, intoxicants, food prepared from money earned thought, foul means and food offered disdainfully should be avoided, as f ar as possible.
20. It is always desirable to observe Brahmacharya, but it is specifically essential to observe it during Gayatri Anusthan.
21. It is also desirable to follow some specific disciplines during Anusthan. (1) The Sadhak should avoid getting hair of his head cut although he can shave himself. (2) He should sleep on a hard, wooden bed or on the ground and not on a cot. (3) Foot- wear of leather should be avoided (4) Food, if possible, should be taken only once a day. Fruits or milk can be taken in the evening. (5) The Sadhak should do his own service himself. He should not, as far as possible, allow his body and clothes to be touched by others.
22. Sumeru (the central big bead) of the rosary should not be crossed while doing Jap. After completion of the rosary every time, the sumeru should be touched on the eyes and forehead and after reversing it, Jap should be resumed till the sumeru is reached again. Materials of worship should be placed at such a place that they are not touched by others.
23. There should be no slackness in maintaining cleanliness of the place and articles of worship. Cleanliness of body and clothes is also essential. Jap is more useful if it is done in a fixed number at a fixed time and place.
There is no harm in doing Sadhana anywhere at whatever time with unsteady mind, but such symbolic worship is not as beneficial as one which is done with utmost sincerity and with observance of above mentioned guidelines.

Gayatri is a Unique Solution for Problems

It is absolutely easy to be liberated from sins by Gayatri worship. The specialty of Gayatri worship is that when the resonance of the innate powers within its 24 letters occurs within the heart, the sattogun (virtue) within thoughts increased day-by-day and as a result changes occur in the nature and program of the person. One in whose heart virtuous thoughts increase; the same excellence will also be there in his deeds.
A person's nature is not any definite or permanent thing. It keeps on changing according to situations and sentiments. It is not necessary that person who is sinful to-day will remain sinful throughout life. Similarly it cannot also be said that a person who is a gentleman with good conduct to-day, will remain so in future also.
Situations and sentiments can bring about such a change in a person that he will appear completely transformed. Sin is a type of mental condition and habit. It is within man's power to give up sin by strength of mind. The mental strength necessary for the change by giving up sin is created in promising measure by Gayatri-worship and the means for inner transformation become easily available. Liberation from sins is as easy as shaving one's bearded. It is not proper for a sinful person to think that - since he has been on the wrong path up to now and adopted sinful thoughts and performed bad deeds, how is his reform possible? This disappointment is improper because every fallen person can rise up, every sinner can become pure.
Many a times it is seen that man performs wicked deeds because of helplessness, ignorance, bad company, curiosity or force of circumstances. At that time, he does not think that such sin is terrible. Afterwards, with his mental development, the same wickedness appears very horrible. But because those sinful acts were carried out because of wretched mental condition, the related punishment is also small. According to man's conscience, compassion is felt at the time of killing; therefore it is a sin for him. In man's mental situations too there can be small or big vibrations due to various reasons. During such mental conditions sins committed in mental weakness due to ignorance are not considered serious in the eyes of God although traditionally believed to be so.
Sometimes it so happens that with good intentions, a man performs some deeds which - according to traditional code of conduct - are considered very big sins. But when looked at judicially, they are not considered so despicable, but many a time not only forgivable fut the same bad acts become praiseworthy also. When a person kills someone for rubbing his wealth, it becomes a terrible sin. A judge of some court of law passes a death-sentence on some anti-social person for protecting the rule of law and an executioner carries out the sentence - they are performing their duties. If someone risks his life to save someone from terrorists and killed them, then it becomes a virtue. All the three have 'killed' some life, but the killings are with different results, therefore all three are not considered sinful in the same way.
Stealing is a bad act. But according to circumstances, that too does not remain a bad deed. One who is prosperous and yet unjustly robs others is decidedly a thief. Take another example - in a situation of loss of life through severe hunger, if a person tries to protect his life by robbing something from a prosperous man, it is no big sin. In a third situation, by robbing a wicked person of his means - making him powerless and putting such means to good use is an act of virtue.  All the three thieves cannot be treated as sinners at the same level.
Many a time - because of situations, helplessness, necessity for religious protection or little intellectual development - such acts are performed which appear damnable, but the intention behind them is not sinful. Such acts cannot be termed as sins. Among those who can be included in the list of sinners, most people are such that they had to perform undesirable acts because of some of the above reasons, but later on they became normal. They became helpless because of situations, lack of solutions, and habits, and slipped into wickedness. They would have definitely become good individuals if they were in good situations, or received good facilities and obtained proper means for progress and satisfaction.
However sinful a person in the eyes of law and public opinion, but in reality the number of sinners in this world is very small. People who became wicked because of the force of circumstances can be reformed because every soul is pure because the soul is a part of God.

Gayatri - A Unique Solution For Problems-1

Many people think that they have committed so many sins, such wicked deeds and the list of their known and unknown sins is so big, that they cannot be reformed, so how can they achieve salvation? People who think in this manner should know that as soon as they take a vow to walk on the path of good deeds, the old dirty lice-ridden cloak of vices is automatically cast off. By shedding off sins and desires and sincerely repenting for them, we are liberated from the bad results of our bad deeds. Only those traits of acts of our past births which are destined to be borne as prarabdha (fate) have to be born at some time or other during this vehicle of more sins. The punishment under God's law of fate can be lightened by not resorting to wickedness and repenting for earlier sins and it is also possible to be forgiven.
The mental strength through Gayatri -worship definitely helps to remove innumerable bad tendencies, habits and sinful attitudes of the worshipper. Many people ask, "I have so-and-so bad tendency, I have not paid any attention to avoiding non-vegetarian food, I have committed certain bad deeds. Can I be deserving of Gayatri-worship?" Such people should very well understand that Gayatri is a kind of soap. When soap has been created for removing dirt, then it is useless to think whether dirty clothing deserves the use of soap. The use of Gayatri is like a spiritual soap to remove the bad impressions and influences and dualities and controversies within the mind. Hence a sinful person should not hesitate to use it.
Liberation from evil tendencies is definite and easy with inner transformation. It is neither impossible nor surprising if to-day's sinner becomes a saint to-morrow. Authors of scriptures have told this straight-forward tale with great emphasis on the destruction of sins through Gayatri-worship.
It is understood that one can be freed from the punishment for past deeds by certain means, and then evil people will go on committing sins and then resort to the above means by thinking that now their past sins have been annihilated. They will think of further committing the sinful acts and resorting to the prayers for destroying the sins thus mistakenly thinking that they will get the benefit from their bad deeds and simultaneously get the added benefit of freedom from the sins.
One must remove this misconception from its roots. If man goes on committing more sins, he remains sinful only. There is no question of his sins being washed out through prayers. If simultaneously he commits sins also. When man starts despising sinful acts and saves himself from bad thoughts - like cleansing from urine and faces - then on achieving this state of mind, he will not have the inclination to adopt the path of sin. He will not expect that God will accept a small bribe of prayers and forgive his continuity of sins.
But in God's office, those person cases are considered with a liberal attitude, who has given up bad deeds, and not only given up bad tendencies but repented for past mistakes. For the banishment of crimes, the rule of punishment is put into effect - when children do something wrong, the mother scolds them, when a disciple becomes tardy, the teacher takes up the cane, when the societal rules are disturbed, the local council dispenses punishment, when the law is broken, fines, jail, extolment or death-sentence is their. God has provided for punishment of sins through punishment from deities, bodily ailments and material wants or scarcity. This rule of law is not meant as revenge or 'an eye for an eye and a tooth for - a tooth'; but it is created on the basis of highspiritual science. The reason is that as a result of the unhappiness caused by 'punishment' there is a commotion within man's mind, a certain reaction, which shocks his hidden, thinking and he gives up the faulty path to return to the proper path.

Through punishment from others, we are forced to commit penance for our purification.  If we willingly adopt this method for ourselves, willingly undergo penance for our open and hidden sins, and then it is innumerable times better compared to the penance forced on because of others. There is neither insult, nor revenge nor dejection - instead, because of woeful penance there is spiritual joy, and valor and courage manifest and our prestige increases in the eyes of others. The fire of the soul is required for the eradication of sins. The creation of this fire gives double benefits, one - destruction of harmful tendencies, sins, and two - development, nourishment and increase in divine qualities through the same warmth and brightness, and as a result the seeker becomes an ascetic, mentally strong and luminous.
