Your Servant
Act not in such a way, O my Lord,
That my work may go wrong And Thou may merely watch, Sitting at a distance....
With confidence in Thy Name, I have given up hope of others My mind finds no
comfort in worldly observances, Accept the service of Guru Ravidas, Thy Slave O
Lord And manifest Thy Name the purifier of the fallen ones. Who other than Thee
can do such a thing O my Lord? Merciful to the poor is my Lord Who had put the
canopy (of spiritual sovereignty) over my head He whose touch defiles the
world, On such a one as me Thou alone can bestow Thy Grace. Guru Ravidas
Service which is rendered without
joy helps neither the servant not the served. But all other pleasures and
possessions pale into nothingness before service which is rendered in a spirit
of joy. M.K. Gandhi
Nothing in Return
Let not the fruits of action be
not thy motive, nor be thy attachment to inaction. Gita
2.14
Your work is to discover your work
and then with all your heart to give yourself to it. Gautama Buddha
It's the action, not the fruit of
the action, that's important. You have to do the right thing. It may not be in
your power, nay not be in your time, that there will be any fruit. But that
doesn't mean you stop doing the right thing. You may never know what results
come from your action. But if you do nothing there will be no result. MK Gandhi
The awakened sages call a person
wise when all his undertakings are free from anxiety about results; all his
selfish desires have been consumed in the fire of knowledge. The wise, ever
satisfied, have abandoned all external supports. Their security is unaffected
by the results of their action; even while acting, they really do nothing at
all. Stay free from expectations and from all sense of possession, with mind
and body firmly controlled by the Self. Gita
4.19-21
